Striker to striker: Juan Sánchez's advice for Maxi Gómez

New signing Maxi Gómez is set to be the latest player to feature for both Celta Vigo and Valencia CF. Perhaps the most well-known former striker to do so is Juan Sánchez, who -besides a loan spell at RCD Mallorca in 1993/94- played for one of the two clubs for the entirety of his top flight career.
A veteran of over 400 games for the sides from Mestalla and Balaídos, Sánchez gave his thoughts on Gómez' chances of success at VCF after his arrival this past weekend.
“He is young, scores a lot of goals and is a great header of the ball. He's adapted well to LaLiga and has a completely different profile to what the team had before," explained the man who won two league titles, the UEFA Cup and Spanish Supercopa with Valencia CF.
"If you send crosses into the box, he has the reach to shoot. He gives the team a boost on set pieces, whether its free kicks or corners."
"He has character and personality, is established in Spain and will come here with plenty of ambition to improve at a great club like Valencia CF," said Sánchez, who was also 22 years old when he moved between the two teams for the first time (being transfered to Celta from VCF).
"Maxi should know that Mestalla will demand a lot from him; he's coming to a club where you fight to get into the Champions League and win trophies, but I think that he will adapt very well, because he has a lot of personality."
"He also needs to be aware that Marcelino makes a lot of rotations in attack, and get used to this, because in Vigo he always played. Forwards are worked very hard at Valencia CF."
Sánchez scored 48 goals for VCF. Maxi Gómez will look to get his tally started when the 2019/20 season gets underway in a month's time.
